Texas 1-D-1 Wildlife Tax Valuation
Many Texas landowners choose to manage their property under the 1-d-1 Wildlife Tax Valuation, which allows land to be appraised based on wildlife management activities rather than traditional agricultural use. This program encourages landowners to actively manage their property in ways that support healthy wildlife populations and habitat.
To qualify and remain compliant, landowners must actively perform wildlife management practices that benefit native wildlife and their habitat. These activities typically fall into several categories such as habitat control, providing supplemental water or food, population monitoring, and managing wildlife harvest.
Understanding the requirements and maintaining proper documentation can sometimes be confusing for landowners. However, when implemented correctly, wildlife tax valuation can provide both significant tax benefits and meaningful improvements to the health of the land.
